A Study of Applying Commonsense Reasoning Techniques in Student Modeling

Abstract
Abstract-Student modeling is an essential part in constructing an ITS(Intelligent System). To teach a student effectively, a good understanding of the student's current learning status has to play an important part in deciding the teaching
strategy.
Usually, a computer has very limited ability in evaluating the status of a student because of its strict nature. In this pape, we propose several techniques to enhance the computer's ability to diagnose a student's learning status by using
commonsense
reasoning techniques. In particular, we apply TMS(Truth Maintenance System) and MVL(Multi Valued Lcgic) to represent default type rules. We present some examples to show how these systems can be applied in constructing a student model.
